About Body Fat Percentage

Body fat percentage is the proportion of fat to the total body weight. It's a more accurate indicator of fitness than BMI because it distinguishes between fat and muscle mass.

Body Fat Categories for Men:

  • Essential Fat: 2-5%
  • Athletes: 6-13%
  • Fitness: 14-17%
  • Average: 18-24%
  • Obese: 25%+

Body Fat Categories for Women:

  • Essential Fat: 10-13%
  • Athletes: 14-20%
  • Fitness: 21-24%
  • Average: 25-31%
  • Obese: 32%+

How to Measure:

Use a flexible measuring tape. Measure neck and waist at their narrowest points. For women, also measure hips at their widest point. Take measurements while standing and relaxed.
